*UPDATE #7* Work Temporarily Stops at Seqens Site After High Winds Buffet Building
NEWBURYPORT — Fire Chief Stephen H. Bradbury III reports that work has temporarily stopped at the Seqens site on Opportunity Way after high winds caused the metal building addition’s walls to shift.
The building remains supported by a crane, and there is no danger of imminent collapse. However, out of an abundance of caution to ensure safety of first responders, work will resume tomorrow once a contractor arrives on site to properly shore up the building.
“Strong winds this afternoon were concerning enough that, in our judgement, it was determined that the conditions were not safe enough to continue the work of removing the remaining hazardous materials from the Seqens facility today,” Chief Bradbury said. “During this delicate operation, the safety of the first responders and work crews comes first.”
Work is expected to resume Tuesday.
